The Ripple Effect II; Two Years On (September 2009)
Revisiting the ecconomic contribution of the Third Sector in Leeds two years after the orginal study

When Leeds Voice published the original Ripple Effect report in 2007 it provided a unique insight into the scale, scope and size of the third sector in Leeds. This attracted much comment and became a valuable reference document within the City.

It is important that such studies are periodically revised and updated. Such revisions are especially important within our sector where we have entered a period of significant change, the implications of which are being amplified by the current economic downturn. Through the process of revision we will be able to track the impact of these changes within the sector.

The Ripple Effect - A research report into the Economic Contribution of the Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector in Leeds (January 2008)

The Ripple Effect explores the economic contribution of the voluntary, community and faith sector in Leeds throughout the 2005 - 2006 financial period. It takes an in-depth look into the sectors expenditure, staffing, volunteer count, types of income and also the added value the sector brings, which, although hard to measure in financial terms, has an immense impact on the well being of the city.

In 2005-2006 alone the sector spent in the region of half a billion pounds, a significant figure when compared to the GDP of the city which is estimated at £9-10 billion. In terms of employment, it provides approximately 22,000 jobs, which is comparable in size to the construction sector in Leeds. But what makes it unique, however, is the 19,000 unpaid volunteers it provides alongside paid employees, whose work and dedication is invaluable to the city.
