Established in 2008 under the Healthy Leeds partnership, Active Leeds is a multi agency partnership which has been set up to develop and drive forward Leeds first physical activity strategy – Active Leeds: A healthy city 2008 - 2012.

The partnership includes representatives from NHS Leeds, Leeds City Council, the health service, sport, education, transport, universities, voluntary sector and community faith organisations that will provide strategic direction and take responsibility for delivering the physical activity strategy using a coordinated approach.

The group have already identified the physical activity challenges now faced and outlined the actions required to encourage individuals, families and children and young people in Leeds to change their behaviour and become more active.

This information has been used to produce detailed action plans which aim to increase participation, improve partnership working, promote the benefits of being active and provide new opportunities and skills to people across the city.

In the first year these will focus on researching current levels of physical activity across Leeds, developing workplace physical activity programmes which will be piloted with Leeds City Council, NHS Leeds and small to medium sized businesses, and deliver city-wide events which promote physical activity.

By 2012 the partnership aims to work together to create a healthier city by increasing and maintaining the proportion of physically active people who live, work and study in Leeds.

There are 2 voluntary, Community and faith sector representative places on this partnership which ensure full engagement of the sector in these discussions
