Third Sector Leeds - Vision 2030
On the 22nd January 2010 Third Sector Leeds held its official launch event at the Civic Hall with over 60 delegates attending to debate the ‘Vision for Leeds 20:30’
- from a Third Sector perspective.
After a warm welcome form the newly elected chair of Third Sector Leeds - Kathryn Fitzsimons (Urban Officer at Diocese of Ripon and Leeds) - Rachael Unsworth (School of Geography, University of Leeds) delivered a presentation on
sustainable development. “Equity, wellbeing and environmental quality must be the goals rather than economic growth” was the definitive message which was highly received by all.
Christine Farrah (Leeds Initiative) engaged attendees in some real ‘blue sky thinking’ - imagining our ‘ideal’ Leeds as ‘we’ would like to it to be in 20 years time. These aspirations were then fed back through workshop-style facilitation. But as we all know; blue sky thinking is ineffective unless it can be grounded in actions. So Jeff Gold (Leeds Business School, Leeds Met) brought the audience back down to earth with some key questions for the sector to consider on how we are going to achieve our ideal Leeds.
The main outcome of the event is that a long term, Third Sector strategy should be produced to coincide with, and influence the Vision for Leeds. A further event is being organised for April focussing on the strategic goals for the next three years.
